| Senior Development Officer The International Rice Research Institute is seeking to staff a new fund raising office in Singapore. The office will have a small dedicated team working to increase support for the Institute’s work on rice in Asia. To start this process, the Institute is seeking a Senior Development Officer. The successful candidate is expected to spend the first 2–3 months at IRRI's headquarters in Los Baños, 60 km south of Manila in the Philippines before opening the office in Singapore. The position will also be involved in fund-raising activities throughout Asia. IRRI, the oldest and largest international agricultural research institute in Asia, has a staff of around 1,000 and representative offices in 14 nations. Founded by the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, and now supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, IRRI is known as the home of the Green Revolution in Asia, having played a key role in the region’s food security for more than four decades. Preferred candidates will have: 1. At least 5 years’ fund-raising experience and be looking to gain greater experience in an international environment. 2. Knowledge of the latest developments in fund raising. An understanding of the roles of the many different stakeholders involved in international rice research and development would be an asset. 3. Knowledge of Asian communities overseas and the latest on-line giving strategies. Basic purpose: Reporting to the Development Director and working with volunteer leaders, the Senior Development Officer will: 1. Help establish the new fund raising office in Singapore. 2. Lead and manage the research efforts of the office, especially in identifying new fund-raising opportunities in Singapore, Hong Kong, and elsewhere in Asia. 3. Ensure the efficient functioning and smooth flow of daily operations and activities of the office, especially between Singapore and Los Baños. Major responsibilities: 1. Assume overall responsibility for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major prospective gifts, including conceptualizing creative and meaningful donor recognition schemes and being responsible for continued stewardship. 2. Develop criteria and manage the identification, cultivation, and achievement of support of key individuals. 3. Communicate effectively to internal and external constituencies on the progress, success, and results of campaigns and major giving activities. 4. Plan and organize campaigns and fund-raising events and opportunities as and when needed, focusing on prospective donors. 5. Work with the Development Director, volunteer leaders, and Institute officials to foster and nurture a strong, effective, and highly productive "concept of team" so that campaign goals are achieved in full, on time and within budget. 6. Help further develop fund-raising opportunities with the private sector in Asia. 7. Provide support to the Development Director in overall office and personnel management. Qualification requirements: Minimum education: Relevant university degree. Experience required: At least five years of relevant experience, two years of which should be in a supervisory capacity. Skills and abilities: • Excellent oral/written and negotiation skills; • Ability to interact with high-level officials and wealthy individuals/VIPs; • Strong business orientation and interpersonal skills; • Ability to think analytically and creatively; • Adept with computer software, i.e., MS Office and fund-raising database software; and • Mandarin language skills.
